Allepo Arcade, built in 1885, is a landmark building that hosts several cultural institutions including Ses Tiyatrosu and Beyoglu Sinemasi. The brief required that our design ensures to bring in more visitors to the arcade and revitalizes its functions. To help increase the arcade's visibility from the street, we designed a wooden interior that simplified the space by removing elements cluttering the arcade's perception. We proposed the tagline "Acik Pasaj Halep" (Open Arcade Aleppo) to communicate its refreshed identity and welcome-all attitude on flags and various media. The arcade was imagined as an experiential social space hosting temporary cultural events (connecting it to the streets at both ends of the building) intending to reclaim its culturally significant position. A multipurpose mobile unit was designed to enhance interaction and engagement with the walking traffic of Beyoglu.
